Our Champions League DFS picks 21 October cover a seven-match Wednesday slate that kicks off tonight at 19:00 UTC, with lineups for Fanteam, DraftKings, FanDuel and Yahoo all built from the same projections. Three favourites stand out. Real Madrid carry a 78.49% win chance and 3.06 projected goals against RB Leipzig. Inter sit at 77.27% against Shakhtar with the best clean sheet chance on the board at 40.43%. Aston Villa are at 75.44% against VIK. Bayern against Arsenal is the closest match on the card. Lineups are about an hour away, so treat everything below as a starting point.
Champions League DFS picks 21 October: Fanteam captains
On Fanteam you have 121 to spend on 11 players, with a maximum of three from any club. The captain doubles, so this is the decision that matters most.
Kylian Mbappé (15.3) is our top projection at 6.78 points, with a 56.5% chance to score and a ceiling of 15.19. Madrid’s 3.06 projected goals are the highest on the slate, and he is the main reason we trust that number. He is the captain in our best lineup.
Nicolò Tresoldi (12.3) is almost level at 6.67 and carries the highest scoring chance of anyone at 65.9%. Brugge are only 51.16% to beat Lens, but 2.1 projected goals is plenty for a striker who finishes this many of his team’s chances. At three less than Mbappé, he is our vice-captain and a strong captain in his own right.
Abde Ezzalzouli (13.4) rounds out the safe group at 5.86 points and a 43.9% scoring chance. Betis are 58.6% favourites over Feyenoord with 2.33 projected goals.
For big-swing picks, look at Harry Kane (11.4), who projects for 4.52 but has a ceiling of 11.04 in the tightest match on the slate. Zlatko Tripic (4.8) and Robert Ljubicic (4.6) are cheap midfielders whose best games sit far above their averages, with ceilings of 9.48 and 9.45. Captaining either is a deliberately contrarian move for large fields only.

Stacks to build around
Two stacks carry our lineups, each appearing in 6 of our 15 builds.
Vinicius Junior and Mbappé cost 30.0 together and project for 12.6. That is the best pairing on the slate, backed by Madrid’s projected goal total. The catch is Vinicius, listed as possible with a 0.68 start probability. Fanteam’s safety net helps here: if he does not start, the closest-priced cheaper Madrid midfielder who does start takes his spot, and Jude Bellingham sits just below him at 14.6 with a 4.99 projection.
Ezzalzouli and Isco cost 26.3 and project for 11.6. Both are expected starters, Isco projects for 5.7 with a 38.2% scoring chance, and the pair saves 3.7 on the Madrid duo. If you want certainty over ceiling, this is the stack.
Villa’s John McGinn and Ross Barkley (30.5, 10.4 projected) and Madrid’s Arda Güler and Bellingham (29.1, 9.9) are secondary options we use in 2 of 15 lineups each. Barkley is another possible starter at 0.68.
Best stacks, 21 October
| Stack | Team | Salary | Proj | In our lineups |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vinicius Junior + Kylian Mbappé | RMA | 30.0 | 12.6 | 6 of 15 |
| Abde Ezzalzouli + Isco | BET | 26.3 | 11.6 | 6 of 15 |
| John McGinn + Ross Barkley | AVL | 30.5 | 10.4 | 2 of 15 |
| Arda Güler + Jude Bellingham | RMA | 29.1 | 9.9 | 2 of 15 |
| Abde Ezzalzouli + Troy Parrott | BET | 26.5 | 10.4 | 1 of 15 |
A note on defence. Our best lineup pairs Federico Dimarco (5.14) and Carlos Augusto (4.64), the two highest-projected defenders on the slate. Both are Inter, so the stacking penalty bites if Inter keep a clean sheet and both collect those points. We accept that because their attacking output drives the projections, and Augusto’s 13.9% scoring chance is unusual for a defender. If he does not start, a cheaper Inter defender such as Alessandro Bastoni (12.0) is the likely safety-net replacement.
Value by position
Our best lineup projects for 62.2 points and uses 120.6 of the budget. That only works because of a few cheap starters.
Goalkeepers
Thibaut Courtois (10.4) leads the position at 4.29. For savings, David Raya (7.3) projects for 3.63 with an 8.55 ceiling in a match where Bayern project for 1.75 goals, so expect him to be busy. At the bottom, Dmytro Riznyk (4.0, 2.72) and Maarten Vandevoordt (4.4, 2.79) are points from saves. Their teams’ clean sheet chances are 6.13% and 3.78%.
Defenders
Beyond the Inter pair, Álvaro Carreras (9.5, 3.53) gives Madrid exposure without spending on attackers, and Marc Bartra (9.5, 3.55) has a 16.8% chance to score. Maxi Araújo (11.0) projects for 3.48, but his 0.5 start probability makes him a lineup-confirmation play.
Midfielders
Ljubicic (4.6, 3.93) is our best value at 0.85 points per salary unit, and Tripic (4.8, 3.7) is next at 0.77. Both sit in our best lineup. Oleg Ocheretko (3.7, 2.36) is the floor option if you need every bit of salary.
Forwards
Christopher Nkunku (5.4) projects for 3.61, a fine return for a forward facing Madrid’s 1.18 projected goals conceded. Kauã Elias (4.2) and Peter Christiansen (4.5) are cheaper still.
Underdogs
Most of the slate is lopsided, but Arsenal at 31.71% against Bayern are a live underdog. Bukayo Saka (9.5) projects for 4.43 with a 10.65 ceiling and is the best underdog play we have. Martin Ødegaard (8.9, 3.58) is a cheaper way into the same match.
Feyenoord are 20.7% to win but project for 1.42 goals, more than any other big underdog. Gjivai Zechiël (6.6) carries a 25.1% scoring chance and a 9.19 ceiling, and he pairs well with a Betis stack if you want both sides of that game.
Who to watch before lock
Five players with real projections are listed as possible at a 0.68 start probability: Vinicius, Barkley, Augusto, Emiliano Buendía and Ange-Yoan Bonny. Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Leon Goretzka are less likely at 0.5. With every match kicking off at once, you have roughly an hour between confirmed lineups and lock. Remember that a player who comes off the bench scores nothing for you.
Players to watch before lock
| Player | Team | Salary | Proj | Chance of starting | Status |

Champions League DraftKings picks
DraftKings Classic is an 8-player format (1 GK, 2 D, 2 M, 2 F, 1 UTIL) under a $50,000 cap. Goals and assists pay most, with crosses, chances created and defensive actions adding up. The same attacking names lead.
Mbappé tops our projections at 19.26 points for $12,000. The better value at the top is Tresoldi, 16.19 points for $7,900 (2.05 per $1,000), and Marcus Thuram at $6,800 with a 2.03 value. Isco (15.09) and Güler (13.96) fill out the premium tier.
The cheap end is where lineups come together. Carreras projects for 10.34 at $3,400, a 3.04 value that makes him a near-automatic defender. Ljubicic ($3,000) and Aurelien Tchouameni ($3,500) are the midfield savers.
Lineup note: goalkeepers earn a win bonus here, which points us towards the heavy favourites. Madrid at 78.49% and Inter at 77.27% are the likeliest to deliver it.

Champions League FanDuel picks
FanDuel uses just 7 players (1 GK, 2 DEF, 4 FWD/MID) under a $100 cap, with a maximum of four per team. Goals and shots on target pay most, and defensive actions are worth a lot.
Mbappé leads at 34.83 points for 25, followed by Tresoldi at 27.46 for 22. Thuram is the standout value among the attackers, 23.92 points at 16 for a 1.5 value.
The value on this site sits in defence. Tsuyoshi Watanabe (8) projects for 15.76, a 1.97 value, and Riccardo Calafiori (10) projects for 18.88. Tchouameni (11, 19.13) is a FWD/MID saver whose work without the ball is rewarded here.
Lineup note: with four FWD/MID slots and only two defenders, paying up for one premium attacker and filling defence cheaply is the natural shape. Watanabe and Calafiori make that easy.

Champions League Yahoo picks
Yahoo runs 11 players (1 GK, 3 D, 4 M, 2 F, 1 UTIL) under a cap of 200, with up to six from one club. Goals and assists pay most, with passes, crosses and defensive actions adding points.
Mbappé projects for 15.92 at 37. Thuram is the clear value at the top, 10.15 points at just 13 for a 0.78 value. Harry Kane is expensive at 36 for 9.47, so we prefer Thuram’s price.
Carreras again leads value, 8.31 points at 10 (0.83). Hakan Calhanoglu (12, 8.3) is a strong midfield option, and pairing him with Thuram gives you two Inter players at a combined 25.
Lineup note: the six-per-team limit lets you lean heavily into one favourite. A Madrid or Inter core with cheap value plays around it fits the cap comfortably.
Yahoo value plays, 21 October
| Player | Team | Pos | Salary | Proj | Value |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Alvaro Carreras | RMA | D | 10.0 | 8.31 | 0.83 |

Final checks before lock
- Our projections update until lock, so check them again once confirmed lineups land and team news follows.
- Confirm Vinicius, Augusto and Barkley. On Fanteam the safety net covers a non-starter only if a cheaper teammate in the same position starts.
- Decide whether to accept the stacking penalty on Inter defenders or spread your defence across clubs.
- Mbappé or Tresoldi as captain is the main Fanteam call. Set the other as vice-captain.
- On DraftKings, FanDuel and Yahoo there is no captain and no safety net, so a late scratch costs you the full slot.
