Eleven games make up the main Fanteam slate on 23 October, and that leaves a lot of room to build. My NBA DFS picks start on Fanteam, where the best value sits in the middle of the star tier and in a thin Charlotte rotation. After that I cover DraftKings, FanDuel and Yahoo with one value table each.

Lineups are not final for most players. Anyone missing from the injury report below has not been confirmed healthy, so check again before lock.

Games and pace

Utah against New Orleans has the highest total on the board at 241.3, with both sides implied around 120 to 121 points. Indiana against Dallas is next at 240.5, and the Pacers’ implied total of 124.0 is the biggest of the night. Golden State against Memphis (239.8) and Toronto against Washington (237.8) round out the top tier. Toronto is implied for 123.5.

Detroit against Miami (235.5) and Minnesota against Orlando (234.1) are solid middle games. Boston against New York sits at the bottom at 221.1, with San Antonio against Houston (224.6) not far above it. The Clippers are implied for only 108.1 against the Lakers. That number makes sense given how many players they are missing.

  • UTA-NOP: 241.3 total
  • IND-DAL: 240.5 total, Indiana 124.0
  • GSW-MEM: 239.8 total, Golden State 122.2
  • TOR-WAS: 237.8 total, Toronto 123.5
  • DET-MIA: 235.5 total
  • BOS-NYK: 221.1 total, the lowest on the slate

Fanteam NBA DFS picks: top plays

Fanteam uses 7 players (PG, SG, SF, PF, C and two UTIL), an 89 cap and at most 7 players from one team. A ratio of around 3 is the benchmark. Several stars clear it tonight.

Player Pos Team Salary Proj Value
Victor Wembanyama PF SAS 18.7 54.6 2.92
Luka Doncic PG LAL 19.1 53.9 2.82
Giannis Antetokounmpo PF MIA 17.6 51.8 2.94
Cade Cunningham PG DET 16.5 49.5 3.00
Jayson Tatum SF BOS 15.3 48.3 3.16
Jalen Johnson PF ATL 15.2 47.0 3.09
Anthony Davis C WAS 14.3 46.9 3.28
Domantas Sabonis C SAC 13.7 45.4 3.31

Anthony Davis is my favourite star on Fanteam. According to the latest injury report, AJ Dybantsa is out for Washington. That pushes the offence toward Davis and Trae Young, and Davis is the matchup problem in that pairing. At 14.3 with a 3.28 ratio, he is priced like a second-tier player while projecting close to the top. I expect him to be very popular, and I am fine with that.

Domantas Sabonis has the best ratio in the top group at 3.31. Sacramento’s implied total of 110.9 is not exciting. According to the latest injury report, though, the Kings are without Dylan Cardwell and Maxime Raynaud, so there is little frontcourt depth behind him. I would rather trust his rebounding and passing floor than chase a better game.

Jayson Tatum is a bounce-back spot. He missed shots in the opener, but the playmaking load was heavy and the shot volume was there. Boston-New York is the lowest total, which is the one thing holding me back from playing him everywhere.

Cade Cunningham lands right on 3.00. He is a big point guard who runs everything in Detroit, and Detroit-Miami is a decent game environment. Jalen Johnson was slowed by foul trouble last time, not by his role. I would treat that as noise.

At the very top, Giannis is the best fit for the price, with Miami’s offence running through him. Wembanyama has the highest projection on the slate. According to the latest injury report, Tobias Harris is out, while De’Aaron Fox and Keldon Johnson are questionable, so there could be even more for him to do. The Spurs-Rockets total of 224.6 keeps his ratio just under 3. Luka is the weakest ratio of the group at 2.82. I would play him only as a tournament pivot.

Fanteam value plays

Player Pos Team Salary Proj Value
Jalen Suggs SG ORL 8.8 33.6 3.82
Dennis Schroder PG CHA 8.2 31.0 3.78
Jerami Grant PF MEM 6.2 23.0 3.71
Moussa Diabate PF CHA 8.7 31.4 3.61
Naji Marshall SF DAL 7.5 27.1 3.61
GG Jackson PF MEM 5.6 20.2 3.61
Naz Reid C CHA 11.0 38.2 3.47

Charlotte is the story here. According to the latest injury report, the Hornets are without Kon Knueppel, Coby White, Grant Williams and Kylan Boswell. That leaves a tight rotation. Dennis Schroder starts at point guard with a steady workload. Moussa Diabate is the main centre and piles up rebounds and steals. Naz Reid has the ball in his hands far more than usual and takes plenty of threes. All three will be popular. I would still play at least two of them.

Jalen Suggs tops the list at 3.82. He plays heavy minutes but takes few shots, so his floor depends on defence and secondary stats. That is fine at 8.8, but I see him as a cash-game piece more than a ceiling play.

Naji Marshall has been the best of the Dallas bench options, with a bigger role than Zaccharie Risacher and a strong game environment against Indiana. According to the latest injury report, Dallas is without Dereck Lively II, Caleb Martin and Santi Aldama, which keeps the rotation small.

Jerami Grant and GG Jackson are cheap Memphis salary savers in the 239.8 total game. According to the latest injury report, Cedric Coward is doubtful and Isaiah Stewart is questionable. That is worth watching before lock.

Here is one build that fits: Wembanyama, Tatum, Davis, Suggs, Schroder, Diabate and Reid. It comes to 85 of the 89 cap.

Fanteam fades

These are good players who are badly priced tonight. The projection does not justify the salary.

Player Pos Team Salary Proj Value
Jabari Smith PF HOU 11.3 26.6 2.35
Alexandre Sarr PF WAS 10.3 26.6 2.58
Josh Hart SG NYK 10.5 28.0 2.67
Zach Edey C MEM 10.3 28.3 2.75

Alexandre Sarr shares the floor with Davis and had a disappointing role in the opener. I would rather pay a little more for Davis himself. Josh Hart can fill a stat sheet, but he plays in the lowest total on the slate at a price that needs a big night. Jabari Smith has the worst ratio here. Pay down to Grant or Marshall instead.

DraftKings value plays

DraftKings uses 8 players (PG, SG, SF, PF, C, G, F, UTIL) and a $50,000 salary cap. The value names line up closely with Fanteam. The Charlotte trio and Suggs lead the way, and Jerami Grant at $3,700 is the cheapest useful salary saver.

Player Pos Team Salary Proj Value
Jalen Suggs PG ORL $5,300 33.6 6.34
Dennis Schroder PG CHA $4,900 31.0 6.33
Jerami Grant SF MEM $3,700 23.0 6.22
Moussa Diabate C CHA $5,200 31.4 6.04
Naji Marshall SF DAL $4,500 27.1 6.02
Naz Reid PF CHA $6,600 38.2 5.79

At the top, Tatum at $9,200 has the best rate of the stars. Wembanyama at $10,600 is right behind him.

FanDuel value plays

FanDuel uses 9 players (PG, SG, SF, PF, C, G/F, F/C and two UTIL) and a $60,000 salary cap. The value board looks different here.

Darryn Peterson gets you into the highest total on the slate at $4,700. Rudy Gobert rebounds well, and I expect his scoring to improve with LaMelo Ball setting him up. Daniel Gafford looks cheap on paper, but Dallas has been playing small and easing him in. I would keep him to tournaments.

Player Pos Team Salary Proj Value
Darryn Peterson PG UTA $4,700 28.5 6.06
Cameron Boozer PF MEM $6,300 37.8 6.00
Daniel Gafford C DAL $4,400 26.2 5.95
Dennis Schroder PG CHA $5,100 29.4 5.76
Yaxel Lendeborg SF GSW $5,300 30.2 5.70
Rudy Gobert C MIN $5,600 31.7 5.66

Yahoo value plays

Yahoo uses 8 players (PG, SG, G, SF, PF, F, C, UTIL) and a $200 cap, with at most 6 players from one team. Anything above 1 beats the price, and the cheap end is very strong.

According to the latest injury report, the Clippers are without Bradley Beal, Brandon Ingram, Max Strus and Jordan Miller. That opens up work for Keaton Wagler and Rui Hachimura. In Utah, Jusuf Nurkic is out and Tony Bradley is questionable, which helps Jaxson Hayes.

Player Pos Team Salary Proj Value
Keaton Wagler PG LAC 10 23.8 2.38
Yaxel Lendeborg SF GSW 14 30.2 2.16
Cameron Boozer PF MEM 24 37.8 1.57
Yves Missi C NOP 18 27.2 1.51
Rui Hachimura SF LAC 19 28.7 1.51
Jaxson Hayes C UTA 16 23.7 1.48

The cheap end lets you pay up for Giannis at 50 or Wembanyama at 54. Both clear 1.

FAQ

Who is the best value star on Fanteam tonight?

Anthony Davis at 14.3 and Domantas Sabonis at 13.7 have the best ratios among the stars, at 3.28 and 3.31. Davis gets my vote because Washington’s offence is running through him and Young.

Should I stack Charlotte players?

I would play two or three of Schroder, Diabate and Reid. Charlotte is missing several rotation players, so their roles are secure. Expect them to be popular, and use your other spots to differentiate.

Which game should I target most?

Utah against New Orleans has the highest total at 241.3, and Indiana has the highest implied team total at 124.0. Boston against New York is the lowest total on the slate.
